These terms govern your use of knowngrounds, operated by ycmak.net. By creating an account or running a check, you agree to them.
knowngrounds takes a web page you nominate, extracts checkable claims from it, and asks AI models questions about those claims — once with web search and page fetching available, and once without. It reports how the answers differ.
You need an account to run a check. We authenticate by emailing a sign-in link, so keep access to your email secure — anyone who can read it can sign in as you. You are responsible for activity under your account. One free run is offered per account; creating extra accounts to obtain more free runs is not permitted.

We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches these terms. Where we do so without cause, we will refund the unused credit balance in full.
You may request a refund of your unused credit balance at any time by emailing support@knowngrounds.com. Credit already spent on completed runs is not refundable.

The fee exists because card networks and our payment processor keep their processing fee even when a payment is refunded; it is not a penalty and we do not profit from it. Refunds go back to the original payment method and typically appear within 5–10 business days.
We do not promise any particular uptime. The service depends on third-party AI, search and hosting providers, and may be interrupted when they are. We may change or discontinue features at any time. If we discontinue the service entirely, we will refund unused credit balances without the processing fee.
You keep all rights to the URLs and content you submit. You grant us the limited licence needed to run the service: to fetch, store, process and send that content to the third-party providers listed in our Privacy Policy. We do not use your content to train models.
You choose whether each run is public or private before it starts. A public report is reachable by anyone holding its link and is listed in our public index — treat that link as public. A private report is visible only to you; it is not listed, not searchable, and its link does not resolve for anyone else. Public runs are discounted because that index is what demonstrates the service to people who have not used it.
The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability arising out of or relating to the service is limited to the greater of US$100 or the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data or goodwill. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
You agree to indemnify us against claims arising from your breach of these terms or from content you submitted that you had no right to submit.
We may update these terms. Material changes will be announced by email to registered users and reflected in the date above. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the revised terms.
These terms are governed by the laws of California, United States, and the courts located there have exclusive jurisdiction, without regard to conflict of law principles.
